One of the side effects of not having a flat of your own, is that you start fantasising about how you would decorate your fictional home. I am potentially the worlds worst person with this; being alarmingly possession- orientated (if I was successful, you could call it acquisitive, but as I'm not 'possession-orientated will have to do)

I have, as a result of this, been hording strange objects for my fictional abode....

So, if someone would like to purchase me any of these items, it would make me a very happy lady.

Recently my obsession with failblogs has been reigned in, in an attempt to regain some semblance of an ungeeky life...however, my recent discovery of regretsy may well have blow that out of the water...

I've always been a fan of etsy (as much as someone who resents paying transatlantic shipping fees can be) but regretsy has really opened my eyes for the spectacular amount of...well, I don't even know, on the website.

This is my own personal favourite. So far at least.

Tomorrow is a big day. Not one but two job interviews- my first as a Real Human Being (post-uni).

I feel like Bambi taking his first steps.

Only, imagine that Bambi had actually taken many steps previously- several of them actually successful, gaining footholds- or in my case; internships.

The problem being that Bambi's previous attempts had all been somewhat lubricated with the confidence gained from the knowledge that student loan would cushion any blow. Any massive faux pas; inexplicably sobbing or uncontrollably swearing- both of which I am sure I have an as of yet latent predisposition for- would be laughed off during the customary celebration/commiseration beverages that night.

This time Bambi is kinda freaking out about paying rent and moving out of his parents house before he hits 30, and how he hasn't been out dancing in suuch a long time...

Not only all this, but Bambi has been rotting his brain with Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy and Gilmore Girls! Poor Bambi's brain wasn't up to much crack before!

Bambi's (sort of) first steps suddenly seem a lot more daunting...

OK, Bambi clearly has nothing to do with this. I'm just...well...

I am nervous.

Willful Neglect

Ohhh, I've let my blog go on unconsidered, unattended and unloved for 3 whole months! You see, the past 3 months I have been far too concerned with finishing uni alive (nevermind with a passable grade), celebrating finishing uni (with a passable grade), relaxing in a post-project-malaise, panicking about my quite possibly useless degree, sulking about my quite possibly useless degree and finally mentally and emotionally regressing to a 5yr olds level...

However, my current status of being unencumbered from the chains of regular employment and erm a regular wage has left me with an abundance of free time. As mentioned, so far I have been occupying my waking hours with a 30/40/30 split of xbox/obscure films/eating. This is clearly not including the hours of drudging through jobs- but thats a horse of a different colour.

So in order to coax myself out of my tragic and geeky malaise I am going to attempt regular entries to my blog. Emphasis on attempt- I cannot be blamed if I am suddenly taken ill (most likely in relation to my industrious consumption of cheese in the past few months).

In other news, it has been a while since I lost the tag line of 'fashion promotion sketchblog' from the blog and since I am no longer a fashion promotion student it's about time for a genre reshuffle. From now on, this blog will genuinely be of no use to anyone. Not even myself- although my penchant for failblogs might constitute writing my own blog as some kind of therapy? No, from now on my blog will be a platform for me to exercise my self-indulgent and puerile writing style- perhaps peppered with images or videos from which I can launch my digital vociferation.

Or at least it might be, if the fucking internet connection can keep it together.

Romney Marsh Saga

Camber Sands has always been one of my favourite places in the entire world. Ever since I was a kid, I have always loved it there. When the tides out it looks like another planet- particularly to a geeky 8yr old with a lively imagination, and high tide conjures up the rather disagreeable memories of actually swimming there.

So now Camber Sands has become a fairly regular destination for shoots, I decided to explore the area a little more.

Now, the fact is that Camber and it's surrounding area are...well, horrific. Occasionally fabulous in their horrificness, but always breathtakingly horrific. Dungeness for example looks like some post-apcolyptic dystopian beach hut resort. In a good way.

Romney Marsh has a similar eery feeling to it, and the tiny little abandoned church in the centre of the marsh adds to the surreal quality of it all. The complete isolation of the church makes it a tricky location, particularly for a fashion shoot, but I have been desperate to shoot there since I discovered it, and this film project provides the perfect excuse!

So, the plan was to shoot sunset over the church. Perfect! Eery, romantic and surreal. So a few weeks ago I set off with my camera, tripod and trusty Cinquecento to shoot. I figured an hours worth of footage was perfect; 50mins before actual sunset, 10mins after. Problem- the camera only made it for 40mins. I wish I had known that... So this trip resulted in 40mins of rather dull footage of the sun sinking behind clouds, and- once the footage had been sped up- the horrific Disco Sheep. See sheep might not look like they do much..but when you speed a 40min clip up into a 5min one, you start to notice them a little more. End result; the most exciting thing about the footage was the techno sheep.

New plan; shoot sunRISE instead. Sheep will be sleeping and more or less still, and the footage should be generally more spectacular than the pathetic sunsets at this time of year.

Now I'm not one to rehash the details (particularly when they are liable to induce tears), but I managed to lose the footage. It was perfect. But I lost it. Not that I'm bitter...but I cried solidly for say, 2 hours?

Nevermind, today I decided to give the 2am start another go. Weather forcast; clear. Sunrise; 5.44. Camera fully charged (!) All set. I even bought my housemate to keep me company. What could go wrong?

You know what can go wrong? Clouds. I mean really, if BBC tells you it's going to be clear, you expect it to be clear. Not clear except for the EXACT spot when the fucking sun is rising. Bastards.

Now anybody whose ever had the pleasure of listening to me for more than, say 3mins, will know that I don't have secrets. I don't lie and I don't have secrets. There is not enough 'think-before-speak' capability going on here for either one of those.

Maybe this lack of self censorship I have going on that has something to do with my love for the PostSecret project. It's such a beautiful idea; funny and moving in equal parts and frequently inspiring.

I recently discovered his youtube channel, it's definitely worth checking out- even if you havn't heard about the project.

The release of Burton's much awaited adaptation of Alice reminded me of Jan Švankmajer's surreal and nightmarish rendition, which I was shown during one of the many inspiring and bizarrely eclectic lectures of my Foundation year.

Švankmajer is a Czech surrealist who's influence has percolated thought to many of todays animators and directors, few more so than Tim Burton.

Sigur Rós create some of the best 'thinking' music of all time.

That's just a fact.

So every now and then, when neither Jeremy Kyle nor Snog Marry Avoid is on, I will sit down and feign deep thought. It is best to set a performance like this to a suitably cerebral soundtrack, and Sigur Rós is perfect for this.

I think this is universally renowned as one of Gondrys best music videos, but being a music video philistine (I blame my MTV starved youth), I had never seen it before.

I love the layout of the split screen, and the reversed footage of one of the characters works so well. Typically, Warner Bro's have had embedding disabled, but check it out here.

Although you really need to see the movement to get it, these stills are a poor attempt at summarizing the vid..

Shit. I am officially well into Final Major Project (don't ask me HOW far in, I'm no scientist..) and I have so far spent X amount of weeks, lazing around reading poetry/watching Snog Marry Avoid (I'm a strong believer in cultural balance in ones life) instead of, well, working.

So today, after rigorously tidying/dusting/vacuuming/disinfecting my entire room (any student knows this is an essential prelude to any attempt at work), I have decided the best way to proceed is to revive the sketchblog.

Well, it passes the time, doesn't it?

I'm reasonably sure that every fashion student, particuarly those stuck in the medway- arsehole of the world, spend a fair amount of time constructing their 'dream life'. Let's be honest, nobody can spend that much time around beautiful things and not think that they would like to maybe, own something thats not from primark.
While I'm sure this is a perfectly common and valid pastime, I may be pushing it a bit far; for example, I have a list of things that I will have in the chic little two bedroom Kensington flat (which I will own, not rent) ranging from Biba wallpaper and Ligne Rose lounger to a pornographicly huge range of pornographically expensive shoes (to be displayed on a single wall on perspex shelves) and a lazy yet personable siamese cat. So, in the interests of dream-world safety, I will be dream-world investing in a Ruby Atelier helmet for my dream-world Vespa.
I hope everyone will follow suit!

Oh dear, my perfectly planned, blog-tastic Easter holiday appears to have slipped by without a posting in sight!
My bad, but I promise I havn't spend EVERY day sitting in the postage-stamp garden drinking Corona (I deserved today, ok!). I've been (almost) busy with internship at Amelia's Magazine/Blog, considering maybe attempting uni work and aborting my social life in favour of money-making.
I honestly honestly will be updating with more fabulous, vaguely fashion related finds anytime soon!

Everyone knows the two loves in my life are nudity and fashion. Balancing the two is a tricky act, so I love photographers who do it so well!
Trawling my favourite blog, I read about Bela Borsodi. He is a fashion photographer who works with all the usual suspects; Vogue, Another and V as well as the aforementioned S Magazine. He also does advertising for Hermes, UniQlo and Nike.
"What interests me is that I want to forget for a moment that I actually understand an object and try to explore it in a way as if I have never seen it before"

I love the shoot of the naked bodies in the shoes. The idea came from the fact that heels affect how a woman holds herself and control more than just her feet. The figures are not digitally added but are infact cutouts, placed into the shoes themselves.

So I've been looking at some examples of guerrilla (ok, so not all of these are technically GUERRILLA, but you get the idea) advertising in the hope of provoking a brain wave. No luck as of yet.

Sketchblog?

So Fashion Promotion, contrary to popular belief, is not a 'doss course'. Agreed, most of our work is our sketchbooks- but they really are a fuck load of work.
I've had a good grip on sketchbooks for a while now but I keep coming up against the same problems in them; I want to include moving images (still just don't do them justice) and I want something more interactive.
So my blog is more of my own interactive sketchbook- probably including bits of my physical sketchbooks here and there, steals from other blogs and things learned. You get the idea.
